How it came to be

Agriculture has been instrumental in our business development processes.

Our Roots

Craig and Scott Johnson, our founders, grew up with their father, a professor in Animal Science at the University of Georgia, immersed in animal research from an early age. They fondly recall spending time in the lab with him, and their experiences on a beef and dairy farm have deepened their connection to animal husbandry, which is truly in their blood.

Craig

Craig began his journey in animal research as a high school student, where investigated the impact of benzene on mice's reproductive rates for his science fair project. After earning a B.Sc. from the University of Georgia, he developed health-related software and went on to complete an M.Sc. in Bio-Medical Engineering. Now, 30 years later, he has contributed to significant medical advancements, including;

  • Gaining FDA approval for the Baxter Isolex® Stem Isolation System for breast cancer therapies.

  • Developing quality systems for clean rooms and processes to support melanoma autologous dendritic cell vaccine cultures (UVIDEM).

  • Contributing another 8 FDA or EU approved automated medical systems.

  • Establishing quality assurance systems at a medical device and GMP manufacturing business.

During that time, he also managed to rear 9 children and a mess of grandchildren spread across the country. Craig currently serves as CEO and manager of SanusBio Farms, LLC.

Scott

Scott was initially more Ag directed.  A M.Sc. in Animal Science led to doctoral studies at the University of Georgia.  Scott worked in the private research sector at Merial, Ltd. (later Boehringer Ingelheim) as a manager in Analytical Development.  There he developed vaccine related assays, both in-vitro and in lab animals.

Now, for nearly 20 years, Scott has been at the University of Georgia doing research in the department of Infectious Diseases and the Center for Vaccine and Immunology.  During that time, he was part of many, if not most of the publications from UGA involving ferret research.  He has developed and applied many research techniques and worked closely with the IACUC to maintain the ethical integrity of that work.  Much of that research has been at BSL3 and Select Agent levels.  Generally, if a research technique can be done with a ferret, Scott has likely performed it.

Scott has 3 kids and a bunch of grandkids to manage these days.

Scott serves as a Research Consultant in SanusBio Farms.
